Fern Devlin
http://buyathread.wordpress.com

Fern Devlin's blog has a regular weave-of-the-week feature where she posts swatches of interesting woven textiles--vintage commercial fabrics, ethnic textiles she has collected, contemporary weaving, or designs of her own that she would like to share. She sometimes offers yarns for sale. A weaver for more than 40 years, Fern has journeyed from textile industry sample handweaver to textile industry fabric designer to owner/designer of her own handwoven accessories business.

Elizabeth Starcevic
www.estarweaver.com

Elizabeth Starcevic, a professor of Spanish at City College for 40 years, learned to weave in Mexico on a sabbatical. She was bewitched by the wonderful colors, the delicious feel of the wool, the beauty of the fine arts school that she attends there and the talent and patience of her teacher, master weaver Felix Perez Juarez. She has shown her work at several campuses of the City University, in the museum in San Miguel de Allende and various group shows. In November of 2008 she had a show of 40 of her works at The Poet's Den Gallery in New York City.

Betty Vera
www.bettyvera.com

Betty Vera's artwork encompasses hand weaving, fiber sculpture, and Jacquard textiles. For her, building an image thread by thread is unlike any other art making process; the completed work has a richness and depth not achieved by applying pigment to a surface.

Betty writes, "In weaving, image and physical structure are one. This is what fascinates me about t his art medium. Linear elements such as threads, wood shavings, reed, and other materials provide me with subject matter as well as working materials. Combining cotton, silk, rayon, and other synthetic fibers in my weaving creates intriguing color interactions as well as contrasts in texture and sheen."

A teacher as well as a studio artist, Betty enjoys sharing her love of color and fiber with others, as well as learning new things from her students.

Giovanna Balarezo

Based seasonally in Lima and New York, Tallerqata is a traveling atelier in search of simple, meaningful design. The name is derived from the Quechua word for "covering" in its most basic sense and makes reference to our spiritual and aesthtic roots in the ancient cultures of Peru.

Brooke Kent
www.newov.com

A gallery of handwoven works to be worn and for interior spaces. I like using silks of two different weights for the warp to create depth and movement. Or use a sticky, slubby silk for the warp and contrast it with soft, uneven handspun alpaca for the weft. Every part of weaving, from preparing the loom to finally sitting down and throwing the shuttle, is a meditative act. Threads interact, weaving their own story as the fabric is created. I anticipate taking the work off the loom and gathering it in my hands, watching how the materials play, fold and move.
