We frequently get calls for information about places to learn how to weave. Our librarian has compiled a list that appears below. To the best of our knowledge this list is up to date but some information may have changed. This is a studio workshop for beginners through advanced students. You can take the classes offered or design your own with the help of a master crafts-person. Some classes from past seasons include "Rug Time", "Double Weaves Explored", "Scarves and Shawls", "Sixteen Shaft Loom", and a study group on loom controlled lace weaves.

Series Classes are held once a week for eight consecutive weeks. Each class is 3 to 4 hours long. The Spring 2002 'Weaving Basics" class is taught by Daryl Lancaster. "Beginners learn basic weave structures and procedures for dressing the four-shaft loom. Intermediate students study more complex weave structures and work with a computer to create their own designs. Advanced students will pursue projects of their own choice. Examples of weavings in the Museum's collection are used to illustrate various weave structures." Workshops include "Kumihimo", "Passementerie", "Treadlings and Threadings: Weaving Blocks for More Patterns", "The Faux Nantucket Light Basket", "Tatting: the Art of Lace making", and "Vat Adventures: Shibori and Natural Dyes". There are also workshops in bead weaving, doll making, and quilting.
